OPP Advocating ATV Safety

Police are asking the public to keep safety in mind when heading out on an ATV or off-road vehicle.

Bancroft OPP Constable Philippe Regamey says, although ATVs and off-road vehicles are allowed on some public highways in the province, they have to drive on the side of the road instead of on paved sections.

Regamey says it’s also important to understand speed limits.

Where the speed limit is 80 km/h, ATVs can’t travel over 50 km/h, and in 50 km/h zones, they can’t go faster than 20 km/h.

Regamey says, while driving on a road, everyone on an ATV or off-road vehicle has to have a helmet on, and the driver has to have at least a G2 licence, valid rear licence plates and insurance.
