OPP warn scammers are now spoofing police departments

Police across the country are warning of a sophisticated scam operation now circulating in Canada.
This one involves the scammers posing as police, or members of the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, asking for help in tracking down a possible bank swindle or suspicious transaction.
They’ll ask for personal information, and perhaps a money transfer as well.
Another version sees messages claiming police are trying to deliver documents but can’t, so click the link.
Police say don’t fall for any of it.
They say scammers are now spoofing police phone numbers to make themselves look legitimate, so don’t trust Caller ID.
If any caller or texter asks for personal information or any sort of monetary transfer, end communication immediately, and double check with the police department that’s being spoofed.
