“We’ve never made it this far” Local lottery jackpot now over 400K

According to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare foundation this Thursday someone playing their Catch the Ace progressive lottery is going to be $409,000 richer.

Over the past few years there have been a total of seven Catch the Ace lotteries put on by St. Francis Valley Healthcare in Barry’s Bay, but according to Executive Director Erin Gienow, the jackpot has never been so big.

“We’ve never made it this far into the game.” she said at last week’s draw. “It’s quite amazing actually. The odds of doing this are out there. I mean, you can’t even calculate that.”

Gienow says that the hybrid Catch the Ace draw started in November, 2023.

The draw works by shuffling 52 cards of a playing deck, placing them back side up so that the cards cannot be seen, then sliding each one into its own envelope.

The envelopes are then sealed, re-shuffled and the sealed envelopes are numbered from 1 – 52.

One envelope is picked per week until the ace of spades is chosen.

In the last year over 90,000 Catch the Ace tickets have been sold both online and in person.

Every ticket sold helps purchase critical medical equipment at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay.

Tickets for the 52nd (and last) week draw are on sale until Thursday at 4:30 p.m. online at www.sfvhfcatchtheace.com.

In-person sales close this Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.
