‘Bring your cowbell’ and cheer on Hilly Hundred riders

Keep an eye out for out for a lot of extra wheels on the roads around Hastings Highlands and Bancroft this weekend.

This Saturday, the Hilly Hundred cycling event will be welcoming over 175 riders through the backroads and trails of North Hastings.

The rides begin and end at North Hastings High School in Bancroft, and travel a loop that includes Highland Grove, the edges of Baptiste and Elephant Lakes, Maynooth and Monteagle.

The ‘gravel riders’ leave at 8:30 a.m. and the ‘road riders’ leave at 9 a.m. and everyone is welcome to support them.

According to Bancroft Broken Spokes, the gravel riders have a new challenge this year: the “daunting Eagles Nest climb”.

The Spokes say the climb will be a great place to “watch, cheer and encourage the riders who make it to the top however they can.”

They say to bring signs, bells, whistle and voices, adding that “particularly encouraging to cyclists are cowbells”. Riders are expected to arrive at Eagles Nest at 8:45 a.m.

You can find the courses at the Hilly Hundred and you can cheer them on anywhere along the different routes.
