The annual C.O. Blitz kicks off in Combermere this weekend, bringing competitors together for one of the area’s more bizarre events.

The blitz is a race between teams of up to four people in boats made solely of cardboard and duct tape.

Teams can register through the recreation committee.

Teams also have the option to show up early and are given an hour, along with supplies, to create their own boats for the race.

Awards include Most Spectacular Sinking, Top Craftsmanship, Finest Costumes and Unbeatable Speed.

Organizers say the event wouldn’t be possible without the volunteer staff and support from many local businesses in Madawaska.

The event kicks off at 2:00pm at the Mayflower Beach on Sunday.
