No school bus service for students in Barry’s Bay and area

There will be no school bus service for students in Renfrew County when they head back to school this week.

This comes after a standstill in contract negotiations between The Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium (RCJTC) and representatives for the school bus companies.

Justin Jeffries, general manager for the RCJTC, who oversees school bus scheduling for Renfrew School Board, told MooseFM they are actively seeing alternate transportation services for students. As of yet non of these have been secured in the Barry’s Bay Area.

He said when transportation is found for routes in the area families will be informed.

In the meantime people can stay up to date on the RCJCT website and through regular measures used to transmit information regarding cancellations, for things like snow days.

“We are keeping our website onthebus.ca up to date and we’ll be using our normal inclement weather cancellation system starting tomorrow as well”

Jeffries went on to say he feels for families navigating this challenging situation.

“I definitely appreciate that not everyone’s going to have options, but we are encouraging families to explore what alternatives, if any, they have to get students basically to school. And I’d also share that, like, we have a lot of respect for the work school bus drivers do in our community.”
