Hastings Highlands Council has decided to ask the province to ban sky fire lanterns.
North Hastings Fire Chief Pat Hoover presented information to council, saying the lanterns are a fire risk in the area.
These lanterns can drop onto a rooftop, field, trees or powers lines and cause fires, which are an even greater risk in dry conditions.
Hoover says the North Hastings Fire Service has received a number of calls about the lanterns being used.
We’re being asked not to use sky fire lanterns.
