New Market coming to Maynooth

It’s been a busy time for Dave and Kelly Hunt since they decided last week to facilitate a new Market in Maynooth.

They say that the market is currently accepting vendors, the cost is ten dollars per table and it will be held at the site of the old Maynooth Community Center.

When My Bancroft Now spoke with Dave and Kelly last week, they had just come from the  site where they said they had been marking out vendor spots and doing their site plan.

According to the Hunts, several vendors have already signed up.

“We have people that are selling things like holistics,  knitting, clothing, woodworking, maple syrup products. We’re waiting for some people to come in that are selling some produce.”

The Hunts went on to say that two or three of the vendors are returning from the Maynooth Farmers market (that was run up until last year on the front lawn of Memories Tea Room in Maynooth). Vendors are also coming from places like Barry’s Bay.

The Hunts are cottagers in the area and say they were inspired to run a market after the farmer’s market didn’t return this year.

“We were sad to see that it wasn’t going to take place anymore. We’re cottagers and we bring a lot of people up, and that’s one of the things that we do is take them to the morning market… and then, you know, all the merchants in town.”

For the last 16 years the Maynooth Farmers Market was run by Christine Hass, first at the Old Community Center and then on the front lawn of Memories, located on the main street of Maynooth.

The Maynooth Market is scheduled to start on August 17 and be open on August 31, September 21, September 28, October 5 and October 12.
