Council Makes Recommendation on More Support for Emergency Medical Calls to Fire Services

Madawaska Valley Township Council has made its resolution on whether or not to support two other municipalities experiencing difficulties with firefighter calls.

Both North Frontenac and Addington Highlands have experienced a rise in their fire departments responding to medical calls.

The townships are looking for support in more funding for such services.

Firefighters are generally first-responders to emergencies, not medical calls.

Madawaska council has chosen to support both but will be adding the underlying problem, lack of funding for actual EMS, must be addressed.

Both councillors Carl Bromwich and Shelley Maika are adamant it is a symptom of a growing issue in firefighting services and for local hospitals in many municipalities in the region.
