Hastings County’s MPP says Ontarians will still have to pay more for discontinued provincial pension plan

Hastings County’s MPP has mixed emotions when it comes to the announcement the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan will not be moving forward.

The province has decided not to move forward with the ORPP, and instead the country will see enhancements to the Canadian Pension Plan.

Despite that, Prince Edward-Hastings MPP Todd Smith says Ontarians will still have to pay for the cost of the ORPP.

Smith says he thinks most people and businesses would rather see enhancements to the CPP than the creation of the ORPP.

Smith says he is pleased the ORPP will not go forward as the most important thing for him is that Ontario remains a competitive market for job creation.

Smith says although that will no longer be the case, the enhancements to the CPP will make it more difficult and expensive to create jobs in Canada.
