Early this past Sunday morning a heroic rescue took place on Golden Lake.

A deer was trapped on the ice when it was noticed by local resident Russel Summers who called his father Mike to come help rescue it.

Mike spoke about how they tried at first to go out and get the deer but couldn’t get across a large crack in the ice so they went and got life jackets and more equipment for the rescue.

“A ladder, a big plank, we put that across the crack to go get him. And we just went out and basically caught him because he couldn’t move anywhere” Said Summers

Mike also described how they managed to get the deer back to shore:

“We tagged his legs together so he’d stop kicking, then we had to bring the deer back but the water was open. We put him on the ladder, we pushed it across the crack and then we got to the other side of the shore. He jumped up and ran off”

According to Golden Lake property association member Ron Rimmer who monitors ice conditions for Golden lake, the ice came came in a lot later this year and was a lot less.

Ron Rimmer witnessed the rescue and took the attached photos.
