The daylight portion of our days are about to get longer.

Thursday, Dec. 21 will mark the winter solstice, meaning it’s the first day of winter and the day that marks the shortest amount of daylight in the calendar year.

According to Timeanddate.com, the sun will set over Barry’s Bay at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, following 8 hours, 42 minutes and 23 seconds of sunlight.

Friday, Dec. 22 will have about the same amount of daylight time, but on Saturday daylight will last five seconds longer.

And the seconds of extra daylight will get progressively longer in the coming days.
