The Renfrew County District Health Unit is urging people to take precautions against respiratory illnesses as the holidays approach.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Jason Morgenstern, says viruses such as flu, RSV and COVID-19 continue to circulate at high levels in the county.

The health unit monitors respiratory virus activity and staff have noticed an increase in facility outbreaks, emergency department visits and hospital admissions.

To stay healthy for the holidays, the health unit recommends people do several things. That includes keeping vaccinations up to date, staying home when you are sick and wearing a mask when recovering from illness or visiting high-risk settings.
