These days, anyone might access a food bank for support.

That’s a message being shared by Madawaska Valley Food Bank President Paul Thompson in advance of Friday’s 106.5 Moose FM Spirit of Giving Radiothon.

He says the food bank is seeing new and returning people, because so many are struggling to pay for life’s necessities.

“Our numbers are definitely up, especially in the last few months,” he says. “And we’re definitely seeing a pattern. We’re seeing more families; families of four, five and six.”

“We’re seeing families who have not used the food bank before. We’re seeing families who used the food bank in the past and have come back again. The increase in need in the community seems to be from families.”

Moose FM’s Sarah Kipp and Joël Lamoureux will be broadcasting and soliciting donations at Valu-Mart from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at Metro from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Radiothon hopes to bring in donations of money and food that will help the food bank support community members through the holiday season.
