Mind Over Mood program puts emphasis on mental health

Physical health is important, but so too is mental health.

That philosophy guides Madawaska Valley Family Health Team’s new Mind Over Mood program.

The Barry’s Bay clinic is encouraging people to join group sessions that will take place on Tuesday evenings, from Jan. 9 to Feb. 27. Participants will learn about things they can do to improve their mental health.

Alicia Rouleau, one of the social workers leading the sessions, says in a post-pandemic environment, there’s more need to talk about mental health.

With COVID, “people become more isolated, less social,” she says. “Factors (that affect mental health) keep becoming prominent day to day. It’s definitely a big problem today. If we can promote a group and get people engaged in it, we can combat some of that.”

An information night for those interested takes place on Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Call 613-756-9888 ext. 5 for more details.
