More toys are needed for holiday joy this year.

That from Bil Smith of the Community Resource Centre (CRC).

The Killaloe-based Centre holds a toy drive every year to serve families who need extra support providing presents for children.

Smith said last year’s drive supported more than 400 families; he expects more families will register for support this year.

“The numbers go up every year,” he says. “But the donations always match, so the generosity of the community also goes up.”

He says the nature of winter, makes it tough for many families to provide holiday gifts.

“This is a particularly difficult time of year for everyone. They have to fill their propane tank or their oil tank.”

The toy drive supports families in several southwestern Renfrew County communities, including Barry’s Bay. People can donate toys at Canada Post offices in each community.

Donation boxes there will also have wreaths decorated with angels that list information on a child the CRC is seeking donations for.

Donors are encouraged to pick up an angel and provide a gift fitting for that child.
