Barry’s Bay’s could one day include a Splashtown.

Splashtown Waterparks is an aquatic playground business, which already has locations in Niagara and Manitoulin.

It has approached Madawaska Valley Township about opening a playground in the water off Lakeshore Park. It would operate in the months of July and August.

A detailed proposal from the company was brought to council last week, from Recreation Director Hannah Gutoskie. She said, “from an economic standpoint it seems like an interesting idea.”

Councillors generally supported the idea, with Coun. David Shulist saying, it’s “an opportunity of a lifetime.”

But they also said, if a large floating playground were to be put into the water, many details would need to be worked out, such as security, storage and lifeguard availability.

Council passed a motion, which called on Gutoskie to invite the Splashtown owners to speak to Madawaska Valley council at a meeting this winter.
