Baby isolette now at St. Francis Memorial Hospital

St. Francis Memorial Hospital is now better equipped to handle a baby-related emergency.

A baby isolette has been purchased and staff are receiving training on how to use it.

The isolette is used to stabilize babies after birth in emergency situations or for treatment after an accident. It can also be used if a baby needs to be taken to a larger hospital.

Hospital Chief Greg McLeod says St. Francis Memorial does not have a maternity ward, but there have been past cases in which women have come to the hospital for emergency births. The isolette allows staff to better handle situations like this.

The purchase was made after $37,000 was raised at last July’s Kamaniskeg Area Property Owners Association (KAPOA) Poker Run, sponsored in part by Moose FM.

McLeod says the hospital is thankful for people who raised funds “to provide this essential piece of equipment for our hospital.”
