There’s been high demand for COVID shots in Renfrew County so far this season. It’s so high that now vaccines for the illness are available by appointment only.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit started a series of clinics earlier this month to offer both COVID and flu shots to people from high-risk groups.
The health unit says flu shots are still being offered at walk-in clinics, but to get a COVID-19 vaccine you’ll need to schedule it through the Provincial Booking Appointment system.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Jason Morgenstern, says the shift to appointments is to better serve the community, since many were waiting in long lines for COVID shots.
But, he says, he’s pleased to see high attendance and says the health unit is working “to ensure everyone who wants a vaccine has access.”
