Two Madawaska Valley playgrounds are closed now but are expected to open in better shape soon.

The Township says the Lakeshore Park playground is closed, as work is performed to ensure the park has the ability to drain water better in the future. It’s expected to re-open in the week starting October 23.

The playground at Combermere’s Mayflower Park is also closed, as the Township gets ready to replace equipment there.

Recreation Director Hannah Gutoskie says the Township had budgeted for about $10,000 worth of upgrades to the park this year.

“The new climber that we’re getting is to replace the old monkey bars that are there,” she says. “They were taken out because they were worn, and some pieces were missing. So we’re getting a new climber, which will go along with the boat (playground piece) which will stay.”

Gutoskie adds that the Mayflower playground could remain closed for a couple weeks, while the new equipment gets installed. She says if it’s not ready before the snow falls, it will be ready in spring.
