The Barry’s Bay Recreation Committee needs more volunteers, as it continues its work to make a positive difference in the community.

Vice-chair Kelly McKay says the Committee holds numerous fun events throughout the year, such as karaoke events and concerts. Some of the events are fundraisers, too. But, McKay says, more people are needed to be at events and contribute ideas.

“It would be lovely to have 18 to 20 (new volunteers) all told,” she says. “We’re currently looking for a treasurer on the executive. And we need some more members at large, just to sit on the committee, to have and say and have some ideas.”

One of the committee’s next events is an Elvis tribute show, featuring Norm Ackland and Pete Doiron. It takes place on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Paul J. Yakabuski Centre. The cost is $30 with the proceeds supporting efforts to build a new playground at Lakeshore Park.
