The Summers’ Annual Fishing Derby reeled in support for health care.

It’s called “The Summers’ Derby”, not just because that’s the season it takes place in. It’s run by family from the Valley called Summers.

This year’s event brought 41 teams out to the Bonnechere River on Aug. 12. They raised money through a registration fee.

Derby organizers turned over a portion of proceeds, $2,000, to St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation.

The Foundation says the money will go to equipment needs at St. Francis Memorial Hospital.

Mike Summers says the derby has been a family-organized event for 25 years and now a younger generation is taking it over.
