The Madawaska Valley Wolves will play their first-ever game this weekend.

The new Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League team makes its debut on the road, against the Frontenac Phantoms. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Frontenac Community Centre.

Liam Murray, a member of the Wolves management, says the team is ready to go and he senses the community is excited about having a high-caliber team represent the town.

“The past couple of months have been busy signing players,” he says. “We’ve got about 22 or 23 players signed at this time.”

“The excitement is building in terms of our marketing and promoting. […] Right now we have a Facebook page; we have nice comments from folks saying they’re excited for things to get going.”

The Wolves’ home opener at the Paul J. Yakabuski Centre is on Saturday, Sept. 30. They’ll take on the Centre Hastings Ice Miners at 7 p.m.
