It’s been 43 years since Terry Fox started his cross-country run to raise funds for cancer research and his story still resonates across Canada, including in Barry’s Bay.

The town’s Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday, Sept. 17 at Lakeshore Park. Participants can complete a loop around the park anytime they wish between 9 a.m. and noon.

Organizer Colette Mantifel says the Barry’s Bay run is building momentum again, after slowing down during the pandemic years. She says it’s likely because Fox’s courageous battle with cancer is still inspiring today.

“I think about how he has impacted so many people across the country,” she says. “And how he still impacts students in schools. His message about perseverance and determination is loud and clear today.”

You can register in advance online at this website. You can also register at Lakeshore Park on the day of the run, as early as 8:30 a.m.
