You can finally toast your first marshmallow or hot dog of the summer.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has lifted the province-wide Restricted Fire Zone. That zone covered most of Ontario, including Madawaska Valley.

The ban had been in effect since early June and it meant Madawaska Valley Fire Department was enforcing a ban on open-air burning, including campfires.

The Township’s Earl Dombroskie says the lifting of the Restricted Fire Zone means campfires will be allowed again in Madawaska Valley. Also, there’s no longer restrictions on cooking equipment, such as charcoal or pellet appliances.

However, brush pile fires are still banned and the Township is still not granting burning permits.
