Madawaska Valley formally recognized its Senior of the Year at its council meeting Tuesday.

David Kelley was given the award on June 1, but was given an opportunity to celebrate it with township officials in the council chamber.

The award honours his work with the Combermere Heritage Society, which promotes the history of the village, south of Barry’s Bay. Kelley was involved with the Combermere’s Mission House Museum from its opening in 2005 to its closure last year.

But he’s remained involved in promoting local history and has helped the Heritage Society build new online content.

“I had a great 18 years, I really enjoyed it,” he said, of his time with the museum. “Once again, thank you very, very much for the award.”

Each year, Madawaska Valley grants an Ontario Senior of the Year award to a citizen, over age 65, who enriches the social, cultural and civic life of the community.
