National Indigenous People’s Day in Canada is recognized on June 21 and Madawaska Valley is hosting a film screening to mark the occasion.
The Township is showing Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance on Wednesday night. The screening starts at 6 p.m. at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre.
The film is a documentary that chronicles the Oka Crisis. That’s the standoff that occurred in 1990 between protesters and law enforcement which brought new attention to land claim issues.
