A recent Madawaska Valley council decision to recognize June as Pride Month is receiving opposition.

A delegation at the start of Tuesday morning’s council meeting will address the matter.

The agenda for the meeting says the delegation will be made up of Noah Kluke and Mark Westen. The agenda includes more than 30 attachments, many of them letters from residents who express their opposition to Pride month.

The meeting is set for 10 a.m., from council chambers at the Bay Street Municipal office. It will also be live streamed on Madawaska Valley’s YouTube channel.

The delegation comes after Madawaska Council, in a 4-1 vote last month, chose to recognize June as Pride Month and display the rainbow Pride flag on a digital sign, outside the Paul J. Yakabuski Centre.

A previous motion to hang a physical flag in the Township was defeated in a 3-2 vote.
