An Overdose Alert has been issued for Renfrew County, as health officials say they’re seeing an increase in negative drug-related reactions.

The alert was issued Friday, June 2 after paramedics in the Pembroke region noticed the increase, over a span of three days.

The specific drug that’s causing the overdoses has not been confirmed. But Renfrew County and District Health Unit officials say all street drugs must be considered highly toxic and potentially fatal.

The health unit offers servals tips for drug users to help reduce the risk of overdose. That includes carrying a Naloxone kit and ensuring that, if you use drugs, you don’t use them while alone.
