Public input needed on health care funding: Renfrew County advocate

A Renfrew County group has been polling citizens on whether they support more privatization of health care.

Volunteers with the Renfrew County Ontario Health Coalition were asking people to vote in what they call “a referendum” at Bay Day in Barry’s Bay on Saturday. It was one of several booths placed throughout the County in recent days.

The Coalition’s Leona Haley says she suspects a majority will say they support health care remaining public. The Coalition supports public health care and is worried that some Ford government decisions, such as the move to allow private clinics to perform surgeries, are being made without public input.

“We have had no input on this,” she says. “The election was not based on whether or not we privatize health care. This is our way of saying, ‘people (can) have a vote.’”

Haley says more booths will be placed at well-visited locations throughout the county this week and the coalition will release results after tallying votes on the weekend.
