The team doesn’t have a name yet – but it’s lining up some potential players.

A recruiter for an Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League expansion team in Barry’s Bay says he’s reaching out to several elite hockey players in the area with local ties.

Liam Murray says there seems to be excitement in the hockey community about the new team coming to the Paul J. Yakabuski Centre next season.

“Recruiting is going fairly well I would say,” he says. “We’re in a position where, the closest team to Barry’s Bay is about an hour and a half away. That means we have a fairly large area where we can draw (players) from.”

“We have some pretty high-end talent. Not only high-end talent, but guys who are local who grew up playing in the Barry’s Bay arena.”

Murray explained the EOSHL is for players ages 20 or over and many of its players have played at high levels, like junior hockey or even professional.
