Madawaska Valley putting in full effort to immortalize Halfway

Do you know people who say they’re from Halfway?

Madawaska Valley Coun. David Shulist does, and he wants to honour the history of the little community.

It’s an area, naturally, halfway between Combermere and Barry’s Bay, along old Barry’s Bay Road.

Shulist says it was more recognized in the late 1800s, when it had its own school and places for horses to rest, but many locals still trace their roots to that area.

He’s asking people with old photographs or historical artifacts from Halfway to send them to the Township, for a project that can keep its legacy alive.

“I think it’s important to have it recognized,” he says. “If we don’t do it, the next generation may not know the story about this community.”

“It had a general store, a post office and a school. It has a very rich history.”

People who can help are asked to call 613-756-2747 ext. 220 or email [email protected]
