Renfrew County is getting a share of a recent province-wide commitment to address housing and homelessness this year.

County officials say they’re receiving $3.5 million from Ontario’s $202-million Homelessness Prevention and Indigenous Supporting Housing Program.

The money will be injected into the County’s Community Services Department, nearly doubling last year’s provincial allocation for these issues.

Officials also say the funds will help the County acquire housing and make housing units more affordable.

Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon praised the decision, saying the money will help “develop more housing stock and housing options.”
