MV council excited about high usage of improved Yakabuski Centre

Some Madawaska Valley councillors say they’re pleased with how the community has embraced the new and improved Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre.

About $1.8 million was spent last year to upgrade the arena. The number of ice rentals has been steady since it re-opened in November.

A report to council said 150 hours worth of ice rentals were booked in February. And, it appears the facility will be well-used into the spring, as nearly 80 hours are already booked in April. Councillor Mary Blank referred to the numbers as “excellent.”

Councillor David Shulist added it’s “good news” as normally ice is taken out at the end of March. He said the demand through April is a sign that the investments council has made in the facility are paying off.

He recommended the township write a report to examine the costs of keeping ice in through April on a regular basis.
