Renfrew County tax to increase 2.5%

The county levy on your property tax bill will go up 2.5 per cent this year.

Renfrew County councillors settled on that number, when they passed  their budget Wednesday. It equates to an extra $9.88 per $100,000 of assessed value.

With the average assessment of a home in Renfrew County at just over $200,000, it means the average taxpayer will have to fork over about 20 extra bucks.

Warden Peter Emon says the budget that passed allows the county to not compromise on levels of service it provides.

Key features include funding of a new ambulance and crew and more support for rent-geared-to-income housing. The new budget includes continued support for subsidized child care and Ontario Works programs.

It also allows for investments in transportation and upgrades to many county roads.
