Development charges meeting moved to March 6

A proposal to allow Madawaska Valley to start issuing development charges is still in the works, but a public meeting to discuss the plan has been pushed back again.

The meeting is now set for Monday, March 6, at 6 p.m. It’s inside the council chambers at the Bay Street municipal building.

The meeting was scheduled and postponed two previous times, due to bad weather. But once there’s been adequate opportunity for the public to make comments, council can begin to debate and potentially approve the plan.

Development charges are fees given to builders of news homes or businesses. The money allows the municipality to pay for more  infrastructure and services to accommodate population growth.

A background study on the proposal is available through the town’s website. And those who have questions are encouraged to contact town Planner Luke Desjardins.

If you can’t make it to the meeting in person, you can do so through Zoom. Details are on the Madawaska Valley website
