A Barry’s Bay woman’s remarkable record of volunteering has caught the attention of the province.

Lorraine Finn has been recognized with an Ontario Senior Achievement Award. She was one of 16 seniors honoured at an event in Toronto hosted by the Lieutenant Governor earlier this week.

Finn, a retired school principal, is well-known for her work with numerous projects and organizations across Madawaska Valley, including the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, which she volunteered with for 40 years.

She’s also contributed to St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation and Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care.

Madawaska Valley Township CAO Sue Klatt released a statement to celebrate the award, saying that anyone who works with Finn can clearly see her “passion and commitment to this community. She also called Finn a “true community ambassador.”

Finn has been invited to the Feb. 21 council meeting to receive congratulations in person.
