With cases rising, Health Unit recommends COVID-19 booster shots

Renfrew County’s health unit is calling on people to get COVID-19 booster shots, saying that it’s seeing an increase in cases and facility outbreaks.

Health officials say people aged five and over should get boosters, because the effectiveness of the vaccine decreases over time.

They say, if you’re at high risk of COVID, you should get a booster every three months. For others, every six months is ideal.

The health unit also recommends people get the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, if possible, as it provides the best protection against the Omicron variants and subvarients.

The health unit says COVID is still a real threat, and asks people to take the same precautions that have been recommended throughout the pandemic.

That includes wearing a mask in indoor public settings and practicing good hand hygiene.

Information on vaccine clinics in Renfrew County can be found here.
