Outdoor rinks open in Madawaska Valley

The news is nice for those who love outdoor ice.
Madawaska Valley says its two outdoor rinks are now open. The Barry’s Bay rink is located behind the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre. There’s also a rink behind the Combermere Community Centre on Farmer Road.
The rinks are flooded and cleared between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. each day, so long as the weather is cooperating. And both rinks are lit between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Shovels are available at each rink, so users can help keep the ice clear.
The rinks are free to use and no bookings are required. Users are encouraged to share the space.
The Township posts updates on the status of the rinks on its website and social media, if the weather is changing, so you might want to check that out before you go.
There’s also a rink in Wilno, which is run by a group of dedicated volunteers. It’s also open and accepting memberships for 2023. Keep up to date on the status of this rink at the group’s Facebook page.
