This snowy season marks a special time for the Opeongo Snowbirds Snowmobile Club.

It’s celebrating its 40th year of offering organized snowmobiling in Madawaska Valley and South Algonquin Township.

To celebrate, a trailside barbecue is planned for Saturday, Jan. 28. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the side of the Top B Trail by the Madawaska Community Centre.

Food is being provided by Spectacle Lake Lodge and Lakeside Restaurant.

The Snowbirds Club was incorporated on January 26th, 1983. Today it’s responsible for maintaining 170 kilometres of trails that connect Wilno, Barry’s Bay, Madawaska, Whitney and Bonnechere.

The recent abundance of snow has club volunteers now grooming those trails, getting ready for the season.
