A popular cross-country skiing race is sliding back to the area.

The seventh annual Opeongo Classic Loppet is set for Sunday, Feb. 5.

The event is put on by the Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club, but it didn’t happen the past two winters due to COVID.

Club member Jacques Bourbeau explains why the club is looking forward to welcoming racers back to its location, on Nordic Lane, east of Eganville.

“We’re really excited that we’re able to bring it back. It’s an opportunity for us to show off the trails we’ve created there and an opportunity for people to come up and try them out.”

“There’s a variety of course that we have. We have something for everyone, from kids to adults, who want to do a leisurely ski, to people who train a lot and want to challenge themselves and actually race.”

He says the event often brings out more than 80 racers.
