If you’re hunting for moose, make sure you have the right tags – and don’t trade them around. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is cracking down on illegal hunting.
The Ministry announced that three Ontario people were recently fined a total of $14,500 for illegal moose hunting activities in the Kawartha area, back in 2021.
A court determined that two friends who didn’t have tags shot a cow moose. They then reported the kill, using another person’s tag.
In addition to receiving fines, the two also had their hunting licences suspended for a year. The third person was fined for allowing another person to use their tag and making a false statement on a hunting document.
MNR says it wants to protect the moose population by ensuring this type of activity doesn’t happen.
