Snow is coming, but worst should be over by Christmas Eve

Get ready for snow.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the region and Renfrew County has declared a Significant Weather Event. Ten to 15 centimetres of snow could fall tonight, with another five to 10 centimetres tomorrow.

Roads are expected to be slippery and people are being advised to consider postponing non-essential travel.

Public Safety Canada is also encouraging people to get an emergency kit ready in case of a power outage. Make sure you have water, food, medicine and a flashlight.

But … we all know that Santa Claus is magic, and would never let a snow storm ground his sleigh on Christmas Eve.

Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimbell says the worst of the storm should be overnight by Christmas Eve, but it might still be windy.

“Probably snow ending (by Christmas Eve), so he should have a good trip,” he confidently predicts. “It should be nice and winter-like with a lot of fresh snow around.”

“Winds from the west and northwest blowing it around, so that’s good.  He’ll have a good trip.”

Kimbell repeats the age-old advice to go to bed and cover up your head… with his assurance that Santa will visit, keeping his perfect record intact.
