Madawaska Valley building permit numbers show the Township is growing, although slightly.

A report to council shows that nine building permits were issued in November for a total value of about $959,000.

The total value of permits for the year, as of the end of the month, was about $17.9 million, up from about $16.5 million, when looking at the same time span last year.

Also, while delivering the report, town planner Luke Desjardins said 35 new residential units have been built in the municipality so far this year. He called the news “good for the community as a whole” as it represents an increase over last year’s numbers.

The report was just for information, as councils like to look at these statistics to monitor the level of business and residential growth in a municipality.

Driving the growth last month was two commercial and industrial permits, in excess of $400,000 each. Four single-unit dwellings, with a total value of just over $80,000, also contributed to the monthly total.
