Bill 23 could complicate MV zoning bylaws

Ontario’s Bill 23 could have an impact on how homes are built in Madawaska Valley.

The More Homes Built Faster Act generated discussion at a recent council meeting, with the Township’s planning manager saying he’ll need to propose new zoning bylaws for the municipality in light of the bill.

A report from manager Luke Dejardins says the Bill will impact land development rules. One key difference is that it will allow for up to three residential units to be built into one single home. It will also allow additional homes to be built on single properties.

If builders take advantage of that, it will raise concerns over parking issues and height limitations, Dejardins said.

The Ford government passed the Bill, as part of an effort to build 1.5 million new homes across the province. It makes it easier for builders to add buildings to a single property or build duplexes and triplexes.
