Haliburton’s health unit is encouraging drivers to be aware of new rules to protect cyclists.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit says it is now the law for motorists to leave at least a metre of clearance between their vehicles and any bike on the road.

Fines have also been increased for motorists who open their car doors in front cyclists.

Bikers are also facing an increase to the fines for not having proper lights and reflectors on their bikes.
