The Township of Madawaska Valley, officially, now has a new mayor in charge.
Mark Willmer read the oath that swears him into office at the start of the inaugural council meeting of the new term, held on Tuesday, Nov. 15. at the the Bay Street municipal office.
The meeting was largely ceremonial as a bylaw to confirm the new council was the only notable item on the agenda.
Willmer replaces Kim Love, who opted to not run again. His council will be made up of Mary Blank, Shelley Maika, Joseph Olsheski and David Shulist.
In an opening address, Willmer thanked each council member and said he was looking forward to working with them.
He noted they’ll each bring different perspectives to the council table, but “there is one thing we share in common; a desire to work in the best interest of this community.”
