Madawaska Valley is putting the finishing touches on a long-awaited project to renovate Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre.
New ice has been added and new boards and glass are up. Those milestone achievements mean the project is on pace to re-open ahead of a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for Sunday, November 20th.
That event runs from noon to 3 p.m. and will have minor hockey and figure skating demonstrations

The project is costing the town $1.8 million, but it had to be done. The venue is about 40 years old, and infrastructure for the rink, including its cooling system, was in need of replacement, before the work began last spring.
