If you’re looking to fly somewhere south this winter now that pandemic restrictions are changing, you’re not alone

A local travel agent says the industry is taking off again.

Kim Crawford, of Trent Travel in Bancroft, says that after several months of little business, her phone is ringing all the time now.

She says the federal government’s recent removal of the ArriveCan app, which asked returning travellers to show their vaccination status, may be helping. But, she says, the increase in business has already been happening, with many tourists just feeling that it’s safer to travel now.

“We’re getting a big boost in demand – especially in intergenerational travel. They’re tired of being indoors the last couple years.”

Crawford also said that she had almost no business for a year, starting in the spring of 2020. A gradual increase of business that started in 2021 has recently exploded.

“It’s fantastic. I had a couple busy days I hadn’t seen in three years. It’s so nice to see clients I haven’t seen in a couple years. To see clients again is truly refreshing.”

Crawford warns though, that if you’re looking for a great discount on a travel package, you’ll have to look hard. She says resorts are expecting to be full this winter, because there’s huge pent up demand.
