New recycling law receives support from Hastings County’s MPP

Hastings County’s MPP is supporting provincial legislation to encourage recycling.

Last week, the province passed the Waste-Free Ontario Act, which will encourage innovative recycling processes and require producers to take responsibility for their products and packaging.

In turn, it is expected to reduce recycling costs, give consumers options, and help fight climate change.

Prince Edward-Hastings MPP Todd Smith explains the reason for the bill was to encourage Ontarians to be more conscious about what they throw out.

Smith says it will also become cheaper to recycle.

The province is continuing work to finalize the draft ‘Strategy for a Waste-Free Ontario: Building the Circular Economy.’

It is expected to be completed within three months of the legislation taking effect.
